Why Every Freediver Needs a Lamzac
First of all, what is a Lamzac?
It is an air lounge that is so special because you don’t need to inflate it using your lungs; if you ever had to blow up one of these big air mattresses you will know that this is not something you want to do before freediving or any other physical activity!
The Lamzac needs very little air to get filled and you do that using your arms instead of your lungs, which makes it a very clever invention for outdoor lifestyle!
See how easy it is to inflate a Lamzac:
If you visit their Instagram page you can see many of the applications, but in general it seems to be used especially by beach party goers. When we came across one of these fancy colorful “bags” we discovered their potential also for freedivers (and for other outdoor sports enthusiasts).
What can a freediver do with a Lamzac?
1 – Medidate!
If you are a freediver you know how nice it is to have a place to do some relaxation before your dives. Many of us lay on the ground, on top of a yoga mat or a towel, and even though this may be enough, it is often not that comfortable, especially if you are out on the open and there isn’t nice flat ground available. With a Lamzac, you can lay pretty much anywhere (maybe just not on a rose field:). Its material is sturdy and resistant despite being very light. It will take you less than 1 minute to prep it and your relaxation session will be super comfortable (just try not to fall asleep!)
Instructor Pavol is too cool to meditate and he’d rather sleep on it, but student Jakub is doing a good demonstration of a relaxation session:)
2 – Travel in comfort AND save money!
Freedivers are among those travelers who are flying long distances to get to their training places. Most freedivers are travelling on a budget, and often to save money on flights they have to endure looong stopovers between connecting flights. With a Lamzac you won’t need to worry about this anymore and won’t need to arrive exhausted at your destination (or spend a fortune to sleep a few hour in a hotel). Choose the quietest spot of the terminal, roll open your Lamzac, prep it and sleep in comfort until your next flight. You can even secure your hand luggage on the Lamzac’s fastening with a cable lock so you don’t have to worry about your possessions “disappearing”.
3 – Relax!
A lot of freedivers are active people who lead an outdoor lifestyle and like to explore other places than just the ocean. If you practice full-day activities in open nature, such as biking, rock climbing, hiking, kayaking, rafting, stand-up paddling, paragliding, skiing and so on, your will want a break now and again. Sure you can sit on the ground or on a rock, but can you imagine how much more comfortable a Lamzac will be?
And if you are camping, the Lamzac will make a perfect bed for you. Even though the factory leaflet says that you should expect a 5+ hours before you need to re-inflated, according to some reviews it seems like you can get a whole night sleep on one fill (and if not, it will take you less than 1 minute to fill it again:)
4 – Party!
Of course just because you are a freediver it doesn’t mean that you never party, especially since a lot of your trips will involve seaside locations and beach life. Since you already have your Lamzac in your dive bag, there is no reason not to bring it over to the (occasional!) beach or pool party. Your friends will be impressed and the ladies (or the boys) will fight each other to get a spot on it:)
And by the way, it can seat up to 3 people!
We got a couple of Lamzac Air Lounges to use during one of our upcoming events; in fact we are arranging a Freediving + Hiking Week at Atlantis Freediving, in Tenerife, where the ocean meets the mountains (and a bunch of volcanoes) and where hiking is a very popular activity, with several dozens well maintained routes for all different levels. We have brought our Lamzacs’ in the forest (and on a lava field!) and had the best lunch and coffee breaks on them!
Don’t let yourself be fooled: that little “hill” in the distance is the tallest volcano in Europe, at 3720m 🙂
Note: you will find some knock offs of this product on the internet, some of them very cheap. We wanted to support the real inventors so we opted for the original Lamzac; it might be a bit more expensive than some of its copies, but we got a more sturdy product that we be used on many grounds without having to worry about it breaking easily. It is also very light (1.2 kg) and when folded it’s very compact and you can strap it on your backpack. Oh, and the amount of beautiful colors available will make your head spin without the need to hyperventilate!
