There is no standard recommended depth for this. there are freedivers who dive to 40 m and use fluid goggles and other freedivers who dive to 100 meters with a mask.
most of the people who switch to goggles do so not because of easier equalization but because it is nicer and more comfortable not to have to pinch the nose on the way down, which helps especially for FIM and CNF, but helps you also in CWT for better streamlining (and relaxation).
of course this has a price, which is the loss of sharp vision underwater. some people are not bothered at all by this, while others need a very long time to get comfortable diving like this.
so dont worry too much about what others are doing; as long as you are comfortable with your mask stick to it, but if you happen to try noseclip and goggles (or only noseclip – and nothing on your eyes) and if feels nice and natural then why not to switch?
